Notch is an awesome puppy, his litter came into the Merced shelter as strays. 5 days after coming into the shelter I stumbled upon him, I immediately saw that male puppy #2 was a special dog, he was calmer, friendly and outgoing. He immediately approached me tail wagging giving kisses and moving into a sit position for pets. Notch is a very social puppy and is continuing his socialization, he has done well with all sorts of strangers, he greets every stranger no matter who they are with a big tail wag. He gets excited and wags his tail whenever he sees the leash. Notch goes to the bathroom outside on his own and hasn't had any accidents inside his kennel area, he alerts with a whimper and a pee-pee dance/pace. He uses his "Natures Miracle" puppy training pads in the far corner of his kennel to go pee on at night. He is not used to walking on grass and more accustomed to going on concrete but used the lawn for the first time yesterday. He sleeps inside of his warmed crate at night with the door open, the crate has his favorite blanket, his stuffed animals and a warm water bottle under the blanket, he also has a ticking clock on top of the kennel which really helps him sleep at night. It took him a couple days to learn how to take treats from my hand but will now take them from my hand and will sit for his treat.

Notch is currently being treated for a nasty case of Demodectic Mange he needs daily medication and grooming and medicated baths/ oatmeal dips 1-2 times weekly.

Owner Feedback

I'm writing to update you on Notch's progress. He's turned out to be a GREAT dog. I have attached a picture of Notch and Roscoe. Notch is almost as big a Roscoe already and the vet expects him to top out around 75 or 80 pounds. He weighs 55 pounds as of today!

Notch and Roscoe are great pals and they spend all of their time playing together. He gets along great with all of the cats too. He is very good on his potty training and at this point if he does make a mistake its our fault for not noticing that he wants out.

Once he gets a little bigger we will sign him up for dog school at PetSmart where Roscoe went. He sits and comes when called and he clearly wants to learn more, but he's still a little too energetic for classes.

He's a big love bug and loves to sit with us while watching TV. He sleeps on the foot of the bed every night.

Thanks for saving him from the pound. He is a great dog!
