Hops is a very special 18mo guy who came to us from the Ukiah shelter. Hops was picked up as a stray in Hopland, Ca covered in ticks and over 10-15lbs underweight and a slight case of pneumonia. Well, Hops feels a bit better now and I have to say, he was worth every minute of the 7 hour drive to get him! He has many of the Border Collie smarts and cute mannerisms without the normal intensity. Hops has a soft outgoing temperament and does not jump.

Since he has come to my house he has had great manners, he is housebroken and has had great interactions with my personal dog. Hops tends to lean on the submissive side with housemates and hasn't shown much of a play drive. I believe Hops was an outside dog in his previous home, initially he was very nervous about coming inside and took quite a bit of coaxing the first few times coming inside. Since then he had made himself right at home as a house dog. Hops does not normally jump on furniture but on occasion, gets a burst of energy and will jump on the couch or bed in the process of giving affection towards me. He seems to be content spending his days waiting for the slightest acknowledgment from "his" people and I have to say I don't think I've ever seen a dog that wags their tail/hind quarters like Hops does after he gets a simple glance or quiet whisper of "Hey Hops".

On his first outing in public, he showed curiosity and wanted to greet every stranger he saw. He also showed minimal to no chase drive with running children and showed gentle curiosity with all the other small people walking in the area. Hops normal greeting is to lay his chin on his target's lap for an ear scratch, then he will move on to the next person. If instigated he will try to crawl up and move in for a face lick. He has a very high desire to please and learns new things incredibly fast, Hops is submissive with people, has a strong recall and very sensitive to verbal corrections and eager to please. Several people on first introductions said they "truly fell in love" with this guy and last week I had to pry the leash out of one friend's hand after their second introduction.

Currently, Hops is a slender 40lbs, Hops is up to date on shots, Heartworm negative. He is on Heartworm preventative and Frontline. He is altered and had 4 rear dew claws removed. Hops is currently being treated for Lymes Disease due to his early tick infestation, he had x-rays done and showed early signs of Rheumatoidarthritis and Osteosclerosis which should be controlled once the treatment is complete and may reverse with time, good diet, joint supplements and a weight maintenance program.

If you are interested in meeting Hops, you must have an approved application on file. Hops is being fostered in Stockton.
