Cocoa is a 18m/o smooth coated r/w boy who is looking for a family who has the same level of love and devotion that he so readily shares. This guy has one of the softest most endearing personalities I have had the fortune to come across as a rescuer and foster. Cocoa loves people, his number one priority are the people in his life and making sure they are happy. Cocoa never demands anything back for his devotion while appreciating every pet and moment of attention in his soft appreciative way. This guy could use confidence building and exposure in public but has done well on his outings.
Since being in foster care Cocoa has blossomed, he has gained weight and developed a nice coat. His maturity has increased and he has taken his manners to new levels. While the other dogs greet me with a jump, claw and crawl, he maintains perfect composure, he makes it a point to never jump, he just patiently sits and stares until he can get a snuggle or ear scratch. He'll keep sitting even while his little foster sister jumps and climbs all over his back, face and head demanding some of the attention he earned. Cocoa loves his little foster sister and the play periods the three of them have and has come to love other dogs. Cocoa was very patient and good with her during her initial fear period and backed off when he needed to give her her space. They now snuggle and regularly play with each-other but the foster homes perma-dog remains his favorite and they are constantly connected at the shoulder. Cocoa has also spent time with dogs outside the household and enjoys meeting new dogs, if he is nervous about a new surrounding the quickest way of getting a relaxed happy tail wag out of him is let him get a glimpse of another dog.
Cocoa came to us from the Oakly shelter where he was a two time stray. The second time he came to the shelter he was very emaciated and in poor condition. When he came into resue he was 20lbs under weight. While in rescue, midway through rehabilitation, Cocoa developed life threatening shock secondary to a hemohagic GI infection, he was hospitalized for IV fluids, nutrients, antibiotics and supportive blood treatments.

My family was fortunate enough to adopt Cocoa. Although understandably depressed after spending so much time with Michael and his father, he's already a great addition to our family. He's curious but tolerant of our cats, licks my son's face non-stop, and is smiling more and more. We've been taking him out to fields around our house to let him run and play and he's having a wonderful time. We're already able to let him off-leash while we're running around with him and he comes back to us immediately when called. We're crazy about him already, he's such a sweet, smart dog.
