Meet Bailey, Bailey is a small one year old girl who despite the difficult life she has had has come through the other side untarnished. Bailey came in as a stray to the Stanaslaus County Animal Control VERY pregnant, shortly after entering the shelter she was moved to the Escalon Shelter where she had a chance at a second life and deliver her 6 puppies in a safer environment. This litter wasn't her first litter and was a very good, attentive and protective mom, while in foster care through the Escalon shelter it was noted she was great with both adults and children, especially young girls and was gentle with toddlers, Bailey does well in public too. She was good with both dogs and cats and knew how to steer clear of horse hooves.
Bailey is one of the most appreciative dogs I've had the pleasure of meeting, she knows how bad it can get. and she readily shows that appreciation. Overall Bailey is a submissive low energy border collie mix who is on the smaller side, she is much more mature than any yearling I've come across before. Bailey is very clingy and constantly tries to climb in her peoples laps and occasionally jumps. Bailey demonstrated she was never allowed inside the house before and initially was very fearful of coming inside the house. Once she crossed the threshold she adapted to indoor living quickly and became a couch potato. With the other dogs she has been a perfect little sister and occasionally shows her playful puppy side but prefers dogs who can give some space when needed. Baileys main priority is appeasement of her people, since being in my house she has been an absolute perfect house guest, she is house broken and has not been destructive inside or out. Bailey rides perfectly in a car and enjoys going on road trips. Bailey has come a long way into a short amount of time but can sometimes be overly submissive, she would do best in a home that can continue her confidence building work.
Bailey came to the Escalon shelter pregnant but skin and bones skinny with kennel cough which developed into pneumonia, she was fattened up there and turned into a little sausage dog who can stand to loose some weight. She came to me healthy except after about a week I noticed a foreign body lodged in the base of her neck, she showed the area was painful, we had the twig removed during her spay and discovered there was a 1 1/2 inch sharp twig that was lodged under the skin, the entry wound was fully healed and the twig was most likely lodged under the skin for several months prior to discovery.

I thought I'd send you a quick update on Bailey. We adopted her from you and Nor Cal BC Rescue in late December of 2008. I went back to look at her pictures from her first couple of days at home and was SO surprised at how much she's changed look-wise since we brought her home. I've attached a picture for your to see. Her coat finally grew all in and now she's a fluffball! Anyways, Bailey has been doing great... We've completed two levels of obedience training and are about to start advanced-level training in a month. We're hoping to get her CGC and possibly start doing some therapy work since she's such a people dog. I'm sure you remember her as being a couch potato (still is). She does still show a little bit of aggression with other dogs, but training and socializing has made a huge difference for her. Bailey and her buddy, our other Nor Cal BC Rescue fur-kid, Ranger, have an absolute ball hanging out and playing together. They have also been enjoying camping time. We camp at least once a month, and Bailey and Ranger are always excited to see what new, cool place we're off to. The picture I've attached was of her first camping trip to the beach.
Are you still fostering for Nor Cal BC Rescue? Have you heard from Cocoa's family? What a great dog he is... I hope his family is enjoying him.
